A PAIR OF FRENCH 19TH CENTURY LOUIS XVI St. MOUNTED MAHOGANY COMMODES à L'ANGLAISES.

This outstanding pair of commodes is raised by fine pinecone tapered toupie feet with ormolu sabots beneath fitted foliate chandelles and top caps.

Each central door displays stunning and intricately detailed mounts of cooing doves resting on bows and quivers with lovely foliate movements, the eternal flame amidst a richly chased floral wreath, opening to reveal adjustable shelves.

Two columns lead up each side with ormolu designs flower filled vases all below the female mask headed angles flanked by open rounded shelves and glazed mirror backs.

The centrale drawer above is adorned by a beautiful richly chased gilt bronze frieze centered by a female mask amidst a corne d'abondance and fine berried laurel pulls, the whole is sided by two convex drawers also displaying striking intricately detailed pierced ormolu mounts.

Above is the original demi-lune fleur de pêcher marble top.

Inscribed to the lock plate "Sormani / 10 rue Charlot Paris" and plaquette inscribed " Schmit / Ebenisterie d'art, Tapisserie / 22 rue de Charonne Paris."
