A PAIR OF FRENCH TURN OF THE CENTURY EMPIRE ST. AMETHYST AND GILT-BRONZE URNS.

Each Urn is raised by square base adorned with four berried laurel wreaths above a fine wrap around mottled Coeur de Raie ormolu band.
The lovely fluted socle pedestal in a satin and burnish finish supports the exeptionnal semi-precious amethyst stone bodies forming Medicis Vases incased by beautiful scrolled handles at each side in addition to pierced foliate ormolu mounts.

At the top the rim displays a lovely beaded and wrap around cabochon band centering the finished interior.

Amethyst has always been highly sought after throughout the ages and across numerous civilizations for its protective and mystical powers.

Its name (Amethustos) originates from the Greek mythology and the tale of “Amethyst and Baccus.”
